It wasn't that long ago that some were suggesting the Edmonton Oilers were actually taking a "huge risk" in signing a player like Taylor Hall to seven year extension. The non-believers argued the club were crazy to give out that sort of money and term to a supposed "injury prone" guy like Hall. Just over a calendar year later, how do you think the masses view Mr. Hall's 7 year/ $42 million extension?

The Edmonton Oilers wasted little time to familiarize themselves with the Vancouver Canucks and one Roberto Luongo. It was arguably the worst kept secret in hockey. Everyone knew Edmonton Oilers GM Craig MacTavish had his eye on Boyd Gordon. The hope was the twenty-nine year old would opt for unrestricted free agency, in search of a big pay day, rather than return to Phoenix and remain a member of the Coyotes.

On a night in which the Edmonton Oilers opened up both the home and road portions of their 2013 exhibition schedule, a pair of late rallies from the Calgary Flames sent both teams home as winners and losers on the night.
